In this case, a teacher will be in charge of a student’s fashion training. They’ll teach students about corrections, step-by-step model building, customising wardrobes, making buttonholes, and even using fabric offcuts to create new original pieces! Those who can sew can also work in the fashion industry. (Source: whirligigtop)The Role of the TeacherIn vocational studies, the students study both general subjects as well as subjects specific to fashion. The teacher technically has to have an understanding of more than just one subject but there’s one that they have to be really good at. In this case, we’re talking about sewing. It†™s really important that you transfer your knowledge to enthusiastic students looking to learn more about making clothing and fashion accessories.“Due to my professional experience, I really wanted to transfer my knowledge (...) It’s rewarding being able to have helped students (...) They see me as someone who’s worked in the vocation they want to break into (...).” Karima, a vocational teacher in Marseille. You need to be aware of monitoring the student throughout their course. This means that you need to regularly evaluate their work, make sure they're taught everything they need to know and help them prepare for their future. There are three main types of objectives for a teacher providing vocational training:Learning Objectives: The hours spent with the students in the workshop teaching them how to use a sewing machine and an iron, how to cut fabric patterns and how to pin a hem.Teaching Objectives: Preparing classes, monitoring students, evaluating them, helping them, wo rking with the teaching team, maintaining a good relationship with the students’ parents.Complementary Teaching Objectives: Putting together personal projects for each student in order to help them become a part of the school or the programme. If you’re a teacher at a vocational school or college, you’ll have a programme to follow. Even if it’s vocational, you’ll still have a curriculum to follow in order to teach students about fashion design and how to sew.  The students will have a good mix of practical and theoretical lessons and the teacher’s goal is to help the student to learn and develop their skills. You can also help students by becoming a member of an association. How Can You Teach in a College? If you’ve already worked in the fashion industry, becoming a fashion or sewing teacher can be quite simple. However, in order to help your students, you should keep one foot in the fashion industry and stay in touch with your contacts and stay abreast of all the developm ents in the industry.A teacher's job is to awaken a student's sense of creativity and curiosity. (Source: StockSnap)It’s recommended that you get a teaching qualification, too. This will help you learn what you need to know about teaching.  Most courses run alongside the typical academic calendar (starting in September or October) and are mostly postgraduate qualifications. The more experience you have in the industry, the better. Of course, you’ll still be expected to prove yourself when applying to courses. If you're looking for experience in the classroom, consider working as a teaching assistant and helping out in beginner sewing classes.Once you’ve started studying to become a teacher, there are plenty of options and specialisations you can opt for. If you’re worried about money, you can always opt for a part-time course so that you can keep working while you study. Throughout the year you can alternate between going to work and studying for your future career in teachin g.To get started as a teacher, you’re going to need the right qualifications. How Can You Teach Sewing or Fashion Design?Once you’ve got your degree in fashion design, you might want to pass on your knowledge. If this is the case, then you’ve still got a few more things to do before you can start teaching. If you don’t feel like teaching private sewing tutorials (which require no qualifications, just the right skills and a good reputation), you can always look at teaching in schools or universities. If you want to teach in secondary schools or colleges, there’s one thing you can do...Get The PGCEFor those looking to teach in secondary schools or colleges, the PGCE is the most common teaching qualifications in the UK. The Postgraduate Certificate in Education is pretty much essential when it comes to teaching. The PGCE will allow you to work in general further education colleges, sixth form colleges, specialist designated colleges, and, most importantly, art, design and perfor ming art colleges. During the course, you'll learn how to manage students, plan classes, the administrative tasks you'll be expected to do, and a variety of teaching approaches. Once you've finished your course, you'll be a qualified educator and have qualified teacher status (QTS), which you'll need to be a school teacher in the UK.There are a few different ways you can do it but if you do it in England, you’ll end up having to pay £9,000 for it.Work in a Fashion School or UniversityThere are a number of Higher Education establishments where you can teach fashion design. Here are a few examples:Central Saint Martins, University of the Arts LondonLondon College of Fashion, University of the Arts LondonKingston UniversityUniversity of WestminsterLoughborough UniversityUniversity of DundeeManchester Metropolitan UniversityFalmouth UniversityDon't forget how important accessories can be, too! (Source: LUM3N)As these are universities, they generally offer degrees in fashion design.   The teachers are always expected to have at least a degree in the subject and often a post-graduate degree or even doctorate.  Of course, experience also helps a lot.The lecturers here are educational professionals in every sense of the word. The salaries at these establishments are higher than what you’d get at a college or school and, as a result, there’s also far more competition when it comes to getting these  jobs in education. However, you’ll also have a great number of opportunities to grow your network. Of course, you’ll still need to put in a lot of work if you want to become a famous fashion designer! So make sure you have a killer CV and cover letter, do your research on the schools so that you can impress if you manage to get an interview.Don’t leave anything to chance! If this isn’t for you, you could always offer sewing tutorials online! You could offer basic sewing classes via Skype or teach beginners about basic sewing techniques in private group tutorials.S ewing GlossaryTeaching fashion and design requires patience, care, and a passion for teaching. This could bring you a lot of joy if you love sharing what you know. What Is Fashion Design?Fashion design is conceiving and making garments and accessories in accordance with current trends. What Is Prototyping? This is when you make a sample or mock-up of the intended garment.Searching for Sewing JobsSo whether you work in a classroom, teach workshops, or are looking for teaching jobs as a private sewing tutor, don't forget to kickstart your job search by setting up a job alert on job sites. With a job alert, you'll get an email or a notification whenever new jobs come up or a certain employer is hiring someone with your skills.Make sure that you regularly update your resume or CV because some vacancies and teaching positions are incredibly competitive and you'll need to highlight every relevant certification and all your experience as a teacher and in sewing.Don't forget to attend industry job fairs because you might meet the recruiter of your dreams and get your foot in the door. They're more likely to think of you as the right candidate and hire you if they've already met you. While you're looking for jobs, consider teaching your own sewing class or sewing lessons as a private tutor or instructor. Don't forget that there  are students who don't want to learn how to sew in a group and would prefer to be the only student in their class.Consider posting an ad for your classes on local bulletin boards and on sites like Superprof, where you can make your own profile, highlight the types of skills you teach (like how to thread a needle, embroidery, quilting, etc.), and consider offering your first hour of tutoring for free so the students can get to know you.

Area of an Isosceles Triangle

Area of an Isosceles Triangle A triangle is a geometric shape bounded by 3 sides. An isosceles triangle is a triangle which has the lengths of any two sides of the triangle equal to each other. Since the two side lengths are equal, hence the opposite angles of the equal sides are also equal to each other. Area of an isosceles triangle is the region covered inside the triangle by all its 3 sides. Example 1: Calculate the area of the isosceles triangle if the length of a side is 6m and the length of the perpendicular drawn to the given side is 3m. Given the length of a side = base length, b = 6m The perpendicular drawn to a side from a vertex is the height of the triangle. Given the height of the triangle, h = 3m Area of the isosceles triangle, A = 1/2 * (base length) * (height) Area, A = 1/2 * (6m) * (3m) = 9m2 Area of the isosceles triangle, A = 9m2 Example 2: Calculate the area of the isosceles triangle if the length of the base is 7.5m and height of the triangle is 5.5m. Given the length of a side = base length, b = 7.5m The perpendicular drawn to a side from a vertex is the height of the triangle. Given the height of the triangle, h = 5.5m Area of the isosceles triangle, A = 1/2 * (base length) * (height) Area, A = 1/2 * (7.5m) * (5.5m) = 20.625m2 Area of the isosceles triangle, A = 20.625m2

However, the open seam is one of the simplest to do.An iron will help you make an open seam. (Source: RitaE)The open seam allows you to join two pieces of fabric together without making the fabric too thick. This technique is often used for fabrics that are already quite thick or heavy, to begin with. The open seam is used by beginners and experts alik e. It can be used for coats, trousers, skirts, purses, or any other project using a heavy fabric. The folds of each fabric are separated and then sewn together. This means that there isn’t twice as much thickness at the seam. You’ll usually need an iron when doing an open seam.If you’re a beginner, you can quite easily learn to do this seam. You can also regularly use it for your own projects.Find sewing classes Glasgow on Superprof. How Do You Do an Open Seam?As mentioned before, the open seam isn’t particularly complicated and it’s often one of the first ways you’ll learn how to sew.You just need to overcast or serge to the two pieces of fabric that you want to use in order to create an open seam. This means that the thread won’t get in your way while you’re sewing. This will also make your work cleaner. That said, you can skip this step if you’re in a rush.If this is the case, take two pieces of fabric, and place them right sides together. To make sure the two pie ces stay in place, you should pin them together as this will ensure better results.Get the best sewing classes London on Superprof. With the help of a sewing machine or by hand, start sewing a centimetre from the edge of the fabric. This is the seam allowance or inlay, the distance between the edge of the fabric and the seam. Generally, this is between 1cm and 1.5cm.To ensure that the stitching is clean, don’t forget to start and finish your stitches. This will be at either end of the thread.Once you’re done, open the two parts of the fabric that you’ve sewn together. You want the wrong side facing upwards and you’ll place the two pieces of fabric with the right side down. The extra fabric will be overlapping.Take this extra part and fold it over.  This is called pressing open the seam.  Iron the two ends until they’re as flat as possible. Turn everything over and iron the side with the stitching. Press down hard so that the stitching remains flat. You don’t want to be ab le to feel the stitching on the ends.Find out more about other common seams. You don’t need to separate the two sides but rather place them together.Have you got your sewing kit ready? (Source: jackmac34)This technique is usually used for sewing light fabrics on clothing such as shi rts, blouses, or lingerie. Unlike an open seam, a closed seam adds to the thickness. A closed seam on a thick fabric would be too noticeable from the outside.A closed seam includes a lot of the same steps as an open seam. You’ll need to have your iron on hand and overcast the fabric, if necessary.Learn how to do a felled seam. How Do You Do a Closed Seam?Just like with an open seam, a closed seam starts by placing to pieces of fabric right sides together. Pin them so that they won’t move. The seam allowance needs to be 1cm. This means you won’t have too much extra fabric but it’ll be easy to work with.Do you need the help of a sewing machine? (Source: StockSnap)When using a sewing machine, there are usually markings that indicate the right distance. If you want to sew by hand, you can use pins or a pencil to mark the allowance.  To finish the stitching, you can sew back over a few centimetres of the stitching so that it doesn’t come undone.Remove the pins and then place you r work right side down. You want the wrong side facing you and to be able to see the edges. You just need to place the to edges on the same side. With the help of an iron, flatten to the edges. Turn over the fabric and iron the other side. You can iron it several times if you want. You can then finish the seam by overcasting the two ends of the edges. This will make your seam cleaner.  You just need to cut the ends of the threads and you’re done. The overlock stitch is also very useful! When Should You Use an Open Seam and a Closed Seam?As you’ll have understood, the main difference between a closed seam and an open seam is how you deal with the edges. You could also attend sewing workshops or classes to help. (Source: jackmac34)So which one should you use?Once you’ve finished sewing, you can test which of the seams will work for you. When you’ve got two edges, check whether a closed seam would be too thick and if so, opt for an open seam. You can’t do this the other way round s ince if you start with an open seam, you’ll have one or two edges going the wrong way. This will make it harder to do the fold. A thick seam can ruin a piece so be careful.Learning to do a zig-zag stitch might be worthwhile, too. Check out the best sewing classes on here. How Can You Learn to Do an Open Seam or a Closed Seam? There are different ways to learn. The best way is whichever method has you progressing the fastest.  Learning to do an open seam or a closed seam isn’t the most complicated aspect of sewing. This is why these seams are very common. You could teach yourself to sew by following steps in guides like this one or the many tutorials online. You can find online tutorials on YouTube which are great as you can see what you’re supposed to be doing. You can also follow them in real time. You can also ask a friend who knows how to sew. Learning to sew with friends can be enjoyable and you can use your scissors, pins, thread, and needles to make your own clothes and acce ssories.  You can decorate your clothes and open and closed seams can be used for all types of projects. There are also workshops that take place in haberdasheries. You can learn sewing techniques like open and closed seams, French seams, or zig-zag stitches. In a sewing class or workshop, a sewing kit and an experienced teacher can go a long way.If none of your friends knows how to sew, then you can learn how to do so with the help of a private tutor. This method is recommended if you want to learn more than just the basics. If you and a few friends want to learn how to sew, this could be the right option. You’ve no excuses to not start sewing now!

8 ways introverts can trigger career success, without having to become an extrovert. - Introvert Whisperer

Introvert Whisperer / 8 ways introverts can trigger career success, without having to become an extrovert. - Introvert Whisperer 8 ways introverts can trigger career success, without having to become an extrovert. The typical description of someone that is successful is that they are bold, confident and loud. Their voice is heard and they get listened to. It’s something that isn’t often associated with introverts and to be honest, it is actually a misconception that people have. Being successful in your career depends on how you demonstrate value, not how loud you are or how often you are the centre of attention amongst your peers. It is common for introverts to take the wrong approach by working in a way that puts their hope in a manager or stakeholder that will recognise their efforts and steer them closer towards their goal. Some of those introverts get lucky. But more often than not, those people overlook those quieter people in favour of those who don’t work as hard or demonstrate as much value, but they are in the public eye of their peers and coworkers. For introverts, it often feels like we must change who we are as a person, and that goes against our nature. The thing is, you can make some positive changes that won’t affect who you are as a person, but will instead create opportunities for you to be recognised so that you will grow by leaps and bounds, so that you will be able to achieve and surpass your career goals. Get your work published. Getting your work published is the best thing you can do to amplify your chances of success, without having to push yourself towards becoming an extrovert. In order to improve your own recognition, you need to get yourself published so that you will be recognised as an expert in your field. This means that you will be in the public eye, but you will be exposed to an audience that values the thoughts, opinions, and information that you want to share. There are several different platforms that you can use to get yourself exposed. There are pros and cons to each, which I will list below. #Publish on your own website or blog. This is the quickest action that you can take towards gaining recognition. You want to share your thoughts or expertise in a blog post on your own site and then build your own audience. All you need to do is setup your own blog and start sharing your thoughts. You can even blog on other people’s websites or you can blog on platforms such as LinkedIn or Medium to gain more exposure. #Answer people’s questions online. It sounds simple, but all you need to do is answer other people’s questions in a way that helps or empowers them. This will help to build your reputation as an expert and people will start being attracted to you. #Publish a book or an e-book. You should aim to become a recognised author. Write and publish a book and then get it published in hardcopy and in a digital format. You can then share the book with people who will learn about what you do. They will then be attracted to your expertise and the story that you have to share. #Publish expert videos on YouTube. One of the quickest ways to gain exposure is by publishing expert videos on YouTube. You can do this by being in front of the camera and showcasing the knowledge and expertise that you can share. Or you can share information in a slideshow or screen-share format, which doesn’t force you to be in front of the camera. YouTube gets over 1 billion searches a day. If your expert video ranks well on YouTube, it will continue to get found and your expertise will continue to be validated by the amount of views, followers and inbound enquiries that you will receive. #Publish on a podcast. A podcast is another great way to get your name out there and to be in the public eye without being exposed to the higher risk of scrutiny. Your voice and the information that you share will captivate your audience. As your following grows, so will your Klout. #Express an interest to get interviewed by other experts. There are people that run their own channels who are always on the lookout for CAREER ACCELERATION Do you know what your next career step is?  Many people don’t. Tips for Parents 5 Strategies for Drama-Free Music Practice

Tips for Parents 5 Strategies for Drama-Free Music Practice Suzy S. No matter how excited your child started out, sometimes getting him or her to practice can feel like an intricate balancing act. You want them to understand that hard work pays off, but also have fun and stay motivated. But the minute your child views it as a “chore,” even the best young musicians can be quick to start a fight. Here are 5 tips for easing the struggle: 1. Let them do their thing. Offer suggestions, guidance, and praiseâ€"but give your child her space. There is a fine line between staying active in the lessons and being a “backseat driver.” Avoid setting a timer, as this can result in inefficient practice and resentment. Instead, encourage her to set a measurable goal, such as “I want to play this passage perfectly by the end of this practice time.” 2. Establish a practice routine. Figure out what time of day works best for your child, and block it out on the calendar. When practicing becomes a routine, much like brushing your teeth or sitting down to family dinner, it’s more likely to get done. 3. Figure out what excites her. There will always be scales and etudes to practice, but it’s important that your child is also working on songs that inspire and motivate her. Some children are too shy to speak up, so check in with her every now and then, and ask if she likes the material her teacher selects. You can also encourage her to listen to music she enjoys, or take her to a concert or performance to show her positive role models. 4. Help your child set goals, and celebrate when he hits those goals. Reaching milestones can be a great motivator! Consider offering a reward that will inspire him, whether that’s a fun music book or a local concert. 5. Stay positive. Remind your child that every musician experiences frustration at some point, and success takes patience and hard work. With time, he’ll realize that the practice he commits to makes a direct impact on his progress and performanceâ€"and that’s definitely a lesson worth learning. Photo by tworedboots
